Where are People Moving to in 2024?

If you are looking to relocate for better jobs, lower crime rates, higher quality of life, or anything else, it may be best for you to know about where people are moving to in 2024 and the moving trends.

Are you looking to move somewhere new to call home in the upcoming year? If you are, do not worry because about 52% of homeowners wished they already moved. Whether it be for lower cost of living, job markets, affordable living, or anything along those lines, making a move may be in your plans this year.

Keep in mind that mortgage rates are high, home prices have risen, and living costs are higher than normal, which makes moving harder and more expensive. Moving is a highly personal decision, and everyone looks for different things when they are moving somewhere new. And location is a big one, so be aware that some of these places may not fit your needs. Whether you are looking for an adorable small town or a bustling city, there are many beautiful places to pick from.

However, despite the high rates and expensive cost of moving, many homeowners are taking on the new year to relocate somewhere new. Whether it be a new neighborhood, town, city, or state, they are packing up their things and moving on to a new life. If you want to take the step to move, let's check out to see where people are moving to in 2024.

Here is where people are moving to in 2024.

Green Bay is a thriving city with many great neighborhoods and homes for sale. Whether you are moving alone or with a family, moving here will offer you everything you need and more. With a variety of parks, shopping, and culture, this city has something for everyone.

The average resident in Green Bay spends around 25% of their income on mortgage expenses, which is much less than the national average. Green Bay ranks 7th in quality of life and has a diverse, close-knit community with a population of about 106,817.

The community is one of the main reasons why people are choosing to move to Green Bay. With the tight-knit and active community, there are various events and activities held throughout the year to bring neighbors all together. The residents here are full of the nicest and most welcoming people. Ensure that you research your neighborhood's HOA if they have one. Regardless of your interests and hobbies, you will fit in.

Of course, the main reason people are relocating to a new neighborhood in Green Bay is the affordable homes. Whether you are a first-time home buyer or coming from another city, the homes offer great value and quality. From townhomes and apartments to single-family homes, the housing market is great here. The prices have seen a little increase, but the healthy job growth makes the homes more affordable.

Huntsville, AL

Median Home Price $278,500
Median Household Income $60,959
Unemployment Rate 2.0

Huntsville is an ideal college town and is home to the University of Alabama. This city has growing job opportunities in the tech industry as well as some of the higher education and work prospects. With about 216,963 residents, this city is one of the best places to live in the United States.

Thankfully, with the booming economy and many job opportunities here, it is easy to live comfortably in this city.

However, the housing market in Huntsville is considered to be somewhat competitive. The growth of the housing market is expected to continue to expand. This place is the number one metro area to live in and the third most affordable place to live, so homes are selling quicker than usual. So, if you are interested in moving to Huntsville and buying a home here at a reasonable cost, let's find the perfect home for you.

Raleigh, NC

Median Home Price $433,120
Median Household Income $72,996
Unemployment Rate 2.9

Raleigh was ranked number 1 for best city for quality of life in the United States and the second best nationwide. There are many reasons why Raleigh is a great place to relocate to, whether it be the welcoming community, a place for jobs, food, great beer, affordable homes, and so much more.

Even though Raleigh is a city, it still offers a small-town feel. The population has been growing dramatically over the past couple of years. The growth in population in Raleigh makes it one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States.

On the other hand, when moving somewhere new, you need a job, and thankfully, in Raleigh, you will have an easier time finding a job than in other places. It is ranked a top US city for jobs, and that is why so many people are relocating here and calling Raleigh their home. With the Research Triangle Park being a part of the city, there are endless job opportunities for everyone.

When it comes to homes, the homes for sale here in Raleigh are some of the most affordable in the nation; whether you are looking for a home in Downtown Raleigh, North Raleigh, or even a suburb of Raleigh, all the homes are reasonably prices and good value.

Overall, the biggest reason why people are relocating to Raleigh is the overall affordability of the city. Even though it's a major technology city, the home prices are under the national average, and the cost of living is well below the national average as well. So, if you are looking to live in a thriving and booming city that is affordable, finding your new home in Raleigh may be for you.

Boulder, CO

Median Home Price $983,863
Median Household Income $74,902
Unemployment Rate 3.0

Boulder is home to the "happiest city" in the country. With diverse community living, major tech industries, and a high quality of life, this is a great city to move to. On the downside, Boulder is one of the most expensive places to move to as well. However, this city is home to the most highly educated institutions, so if you are interested in starting a family and wanting to be around the best education, this may be a great place to live.

This vibrant city is one of the best places to live in the US, with a health-focused culture, state-of-the-art educational facilities, and tons of outdoor recreation hot spots through many mountain ranges and green spaces. So, if you are an outdoorsy person, Boulder may be at the top of the list for you.

With a mix of urban and outdoor living, Boulder is a luxury city with a higher cost of living than the national average, but the city has been working hard to have homes more affordable for low, moderate, and middle-income residents.

However, Boulder is a thriving city with many flourishing companies, so if you are looking for some high-end tech, bioscience, or any other company, seeking employment here may be in the books for you. Boulder may be more expensive than other places, but it has its pros and offers so much besides the cost, so if you are interested in this lively city, checking out homes for sale here may be for you.

Sarasota, FL

Median Home Price $462,710
Median Household Income $62,615
Unemployment Rate 3.4

Sarasota is one of the best places to live in the United States and is also one of the best places to live if you are looking to retire somewhere by the beach and with other retirees. The cost of living is, however, on the steeper side, so this place is more likely for people with higher incomes.

Sarasota is roughly 24 square miles and has the most breathtaking scenery. This town is the only place in the world where you can walk through the treetops of a subtropical forest! Sarasota is home to the Myakka Canopy Walkway, which is an 85-foot-long boardwalk that is 25 feet above the ground. Whether you are planning on moving to the area or just visiting, this walkway is truly something everyone should experience!

People tend to flock to Florida from northern states to either retire or move to a warmer climate. But Sarasota offers something different than other cities within Florida: a calm, forestry atmosphere that is perfect. Sarasota is located just east of Tampa, west of Orlando, and North of Fort Myers. This city grants you quick access to other major cities and beautiful beaches!

Sarasota's housing market is more competitive than the market in other cities. Data recorded in October 2023 show that the median sold price of a home was $541,667. The market has been trending up 18.7% since last year in Sarasota. More and more people are moving to the area because of all the perks that come with living on the coast in Florida.

Another thing to note about the housing market in Sarasota is that the market is still leaning toward a seller's market. There is more demand for buyers than sellers, so homes' prices are higher and sell faster. Homes in Sarasota usually sell for the list price or more—about 11% of homes sold above the asking price in September 2023.

Where are People Moving to in 2024? - The Bottom Line

Moving is a highly personal decision, and what each individual looks for when relocating can vary greatly. It's important to consider factors such as location and whether or not a particular area meets your needs and preferences.

If you're considering a move this year for reasons such as a lower cost of living, better job markets, or more affordable living, it's important to keep in mind that there are some factors that may complicate the process. Mortgage rates are currently high, home prices have risen, and the cost of living is also higher than usual. While these challenges may make moving more difficult and expensive, it's still a viable option for many.

Despite the current challenges, many homeowners are still taking the leap and relocating to a new area in the new year, whether it's a new neighborhood, town, city, or state. They're bravely embarking on a new chapter in their lives and starting fresh in a different place.
